Why Worship?

Psalms 95:6 by John Willoughby

Today, millions of Americans will resolve to do things like: spend more time with their family and friends, get in shape or learn to speak a foreign language. Millions more will make a commitment to quit smoking or quit drinking or get out of debt. But today, I want to encourage you to put “worship” at the top of your resolution list.

What is worship?

  • Worship is submitting to serve someone greater than you.

Who are we to worship?

  • We are to worship our Creator.

People and man made things are not worthy of our worship! Only God is deserving of our worship! Psalms 95:1-7; Matt. 4:8-10; Rev. 4:11

Why are we to worship?

  • Worship puts God and us where we belong.

When we worship God we exalt Him for who He is and what He has done. We lift Him up to the pedestal and humbly bow down before Him as His servants. We say, “God, You are God, and we are not.”

Why do some people refuse to worship God?

  • Some people refuse to believe in God. Romans 1:18-23
  • Some people refuse to worship the true God. Acts 17: 22-28

The Point:

I encourage you to set some New Year’s resolutions for goals are good. But I also encourage you to make worship your chief resolution this year. Psalm 95:6 says, “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker!”
