What Does Worship Look Like?

Acts 2:36-47 by John Willoughby

Today we’re going to move further in our study of worship and talk about some specific ways we are to worship God.

How did the first Christians worship God?

  • They were baptized. Vs. 41
  • They joined the church. Vs. 41
  • They studied the Bible. Vs. 42
  • They fellowshipped. Vs. 42

Fellowship is more than talking about your week over a cup of coffee and donut. It is sharing your ideas, burdens, fears, joys, victories and failures, prayer requests and responsibilities with other Christians.

  • They shared meals together. Vs. 42, 46
  • They prayed together. Vs. 42
  • They served others. Vs. 44 -46

The first Christians knew there was more to worship than singing, praying and doing a Bible study. They understood that God had supernaturally shaped them to serve others! I Peter 4:10-11

  • They attended church regularly. Vs. 46
  • They attended a small group. Vs. 46
  • They praised God together! Vs. 47
  • They showed Jesus to the unbelievers in their city. Vs. 47

The Point

The first century Christians didn’t observe worship; they acted it out. They understood that worship is a verb. Their worship was filled with actions that showed their great love for God! What are you doing to show your love for God?
