The 5 P's In Prayer
Matthew 6:9-13 by John Willoughby
The Lord’s Prayer isn’t really a prayer. It is actually a lesson on prayer where Jesus shows us what components we should put in our prayers.

The Five P’s In Prayer:

1st - Jesus said you should begin your prayers with praise.

When you begin your prayers with praise…

  • You remind your self that prayer isn’t about getting what you want – it is about grooming a relationship with your Heavenly Father!
  • You remind your self that God is God and you’re not!
  • You make God feel loved!

2nd - Jesus said you should submit to God’s priorities.

Your Heavenly Father wants you to say to Him, “Father, I want you to have your way in my life, just as you have your way in Heaven.”

3rd – Jesus said you should ask for your provisions.

Jesus tells you to verbally recognize that God is your Provider and ask Him for your daily provision.

4th – Jesus said you should pray for your personal relationships.

God won’t bless your life if you keep bitterness in your heart. God has forgiven you, so He expects you to forgive others.   Eph. 4:31-32; I Peter 3:10-12

5th – Jesus tells you to ask for protection.

In this last portion of the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus tells you to ask God to give you the wisdom and power to resist the Devil’s lures.       I Peter 5:8; Eph. 6:10-18

The Point

Jesus taught that your prayers should be made up of 5 P’s: praise, priorities, provisions, personal relationships and protection.
