BFC loves to give back

Happening Now

  • We area team of BFC volunteers that are looking out for the needs of the East Bay homeless. There are two activities to choose from:

    1. Each Saturday throughout the year, we visit local encampments in teams to provide freshly bagged meals, letting folks know that there are people who care. When there is an opportunity, it also allows us to minister, pray and share God’s Word!

    2. Each quarter, we will host a barbeque at a houseless site and serve lunch. Two upcoming Saturdays are planned for March 10th, 2024 and June 9th 2024 . What is needed: both these activities will take place on Saturdays and volunteers are needed: 1. To prep, package, and hand out bagged meals. This will be a safe activity as we will serve in teams. In addition to providing meals, we have also recently been collecting and handing out donated clothes/personal items. 2. To bring fresh food and barbeque at assigned houseless sites and serve residents. Who: anyone who has a passion to serve and enjoys giving a little back to those who don’t have much. Teenage and up.

  • Description: This is a year round Ministry and BFC volunteers work a set route in Alameda to deliver hot nourishing meals to local residents who are unable to grocery shop or unable to cook for themselves. Food is provided and packaged by the kitchen staff at Bayview Nursing and Rehab Center and the route is assigned by Meals on Wheels.

What is needed: Drivers and volunteers are welcome to participate. Family members can serve together or partner with other volunteers. There are opportunities to talk with some of the recipents of these meals, another chance to share God’s Word! Volunteers are needed on Saturdays, typically between 9 – 11 am.

Who: If you like interacting with people or simply want to support those who can’t care for themselves, this is a rewarding activity for you. All ages can participate and children can serve alongside their parents or an adult.

  • Community Activity: Cooked Meals for the Houseless

Description: We are currently working with Family Bridges, which is a nonprofit multi-services community-based organization serving the Oakland Chinatown area. They operate and manage a program for the houseless called the Oak Street Community Cabins (OCC) program. BFC volunteers work in teams to prepare a hot meal for OCC participants once a week, utilizing Bay Farm Church's kitchen. Our involvement began in December 2020, and we have been preparing meals for approximately 30-50 people each week. In the future, we will also have the opportunity to serve meals and minister to individuals staying at the cabins.

What is needed: We’re looking for volunteers to prep, cook, clean and deliver the meals. Meals are normally prepared on Saturday afternoons and involves approximately 3 hour time commitment.

Who: Anyone who has a passion to serve and enjoys cooking. Teenage and up.
