Transformed
The Four Gospels describe the words and works of Christ Jesus, but Romans, “the Gospel according to Paul,” gives the significance of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Romans is divided into 5 Sections (Sin, Salvation, Sanctification, Sovereignty, Service). In Chapters 1-3, Apostle Paul exposes humanity’s sinfulness, concluding that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:10, 23). In Chapters 4 & 5, Paul says that God sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins, and that we are justified (declared righteous) when we place faith in Jesus (4:20-25; 5:6-11). In Chapters 6-8. Paul elaborates on the believer’s sanctification (holiness). Because Christians are united with Christ, they are dead to the power of sin and alive to God (6:11). Christians are indwelt with the Holy Spirit and have resurrection power to defeat sin and be perfectly conformed to the image of Christ (8:18-39). In Chapters 9-11, Paul teaches about God’s sovereignty and confirms that He will keep his promises to Israel. Finally, in Chapters 12-16, Paul teaches about Christian service. He says the salvation that he described in the first eleven chapters should transform a Christian’s life and motivate them to serve God and others. The natural outcome of saving faith is a changed life!
This September and October, we will examine Romans Chapter Twelve. In this pivotal chapter, Paul outlines eight changes that should occur in a Christian’s life when they see all God has done for them through His Son, Jesus.
