Koinonia
After he wrote his Gospel to demonstrate that all who believe in Jesus have eternal life (John 20:30-31), the Apostle John wrote an epistle to teach Christians how to enjoy full fellowship with the God of light and love.
The major themes of 1 John are very similar to those of John’s Gospel. Both books emphasize that Jesus is the Word who existed from the beginning and is fully human and fully divine. Both books use stark contrasts (light and darkness, life and death, truth and lies, love and hate). And both books speak of the new commandment to love one another. The Gospel of John introduces people to Christ, and 1 st John shows Christians how to live and love like Christ.
